Building eCulture knowledge spaces that excite, engage, and inspire creativity
At the interface of the arts, culture and digital technology, an original research field has emerged: eCulture - the mediation of cultural expressions, knowledge and experiences across digital media. eCulture environments should enable people to find, use, enrich, create and share cultural content and knowledge.

Such spaces - virtual and hybrid environments – offer semantic-based access to cultural information, expressions and experiences, advanced tools for exploring and using cultural content, and the opportunity to form communities around interesting topics and discussions.

Salzburg Research’s eCulture Group aims at advancing the creation and use of such environments through in-depth studies on cultural domains and themes, innovative concepts based on market and user studies, and advanced technological systems and tools.

The eCulture Group builds on rich expertise and know-how developed in a variety of research and technological development projects and studies carried out for the European Commission, the Council of Europe, and the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.

Collaborations in the cultural and educational sectors include projects with, and consultancy services for, large and small institutions such as libraries, archives, monasteries, museums, media art and youth centres.
